BaltiCCycle Tours

Year

Description / Program / Conditions / Gallery

The bicycle ride „From the Baltic to the Black Sea“ is organised similarly like the previous „BaltiCCycle“ tours. Every day we will cycle from 50 km to 90 km, once a week it will be a rest day. We will sleep in tents. Every morning during a map-meeting maps will be distributed as well as a program explained. From sleeping to sleeping place you can travel individually or in small groups. When according the program some event be planned we will go in one column wearing T-shirts and other ride simbolics. The car of organisers will follow during the whole ride.

Arrival / Departure. You can start and finish the ride at any point of the route. Organisers can offer the transportation service from Vilnius to Ryga or Klaipëda and assist in purchasing train tickets from Odessa to Kiev or Vilnius. The participants should organise themselves the arrival to other points of the route. The exact sleeping places will be fixed later. It will be possible to contact the ride by mobile phone.

Some recommendations arriving from West Europe.

Riga and Vilnius as well as Klaipëda (Palanga airport) are connected by airlines with many European cities. You can check fligts on the following websites:

It is convenient to take a ferry from Germany, Denmark or Sweden to Riga or Klaipëda; the new ferry line is opened from Gdansk to Klaipëda:                                                                                      http://www.dfdstorline.com/Infobridge/Default.asp?si=962&P=http://www.lisco.lt/lisco/lines/lines.html.              There are direct trains from Warsaw to Vilnius. From Vilnius there are trains to Klaipëda with stands for bicycles. You can check timetables on http://www.litrail.lt/wwwEN.nsf.

If you want to join the ride in Belarus and do not have an individual visa you should start from Vilnius. Lvov is the best place to join in Ukraine. There are several trains to Lvov from Poland as well as from Budapest, Prague and Berlin. The general tips on travel and booking tickets in Ukraine and timetables for Odessa and Kiev railway stations you can find on http://www.travel-2-ukraine.com/transportation/air-tickets.htm. Train tickets in Ukraine can be booked not earlier than 42 days in advance. There is a direct train connection Odessa to Berlin. Cheap flights to West Europe because of high season can be overbooked.

Leaving from the intermediate points of the route it is not a problem: the public transport connecting villages with big cities is available in all countries on the route.

Visas. The citizens from the countries of European Union do not need visas to Ukraine but they do to Belarus and Moldova. The organisers take care to obtain group visa gratis, though this oportunity can become true just at the last minute. Therefore particpants who need visas are asked to fill as soon as possible Visa Application Forms and pay the deposit. Visas will be not issued without the minimal medical insurance covering 5000 €. The organisers will cover the cost of insurance.

Catery. The participants usually carry gas stoves and cook themselves in the campsite. Organisers provide information regarding supermarkets as well as coffee-bars on the route.

Necessary equipment:

  • bicycle prepared for long travel (carriers with panniers or saddlebags, safe brakes, reflectors and light);
  • cyclist first-aid kit;
  • valid passport with space for visas;
  • camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, gas stove etc);
  • enough amount of money for bicycle repair, food, museums, and other).

Children until 18. Children can take part in the ride only together with parents (one or both) or another adult who is authorized by notary to take care and is fully responsible for the juvenile.

Luggage transport.One of the ride goals is to assist in developing skills of independent traveler. Therefore we strongly recommend carrying all necessary personal stuff in the panniers of your bike. The service of luggage transportation will be strictly limited to one bag of 20 kg per person. Luggage transportation is not included in the registration fee and costs 1 € per day. If you plan to use this service you have to indicate when registering and pay in advance. Due to the limited space in the following bus the last minute applications can be not accepted.

Registration fee. To promote the long-term travels the registration fee per diem decreases progressively by 1.5% every next day. For example, if the registration fee for the first day of travel is set to 10 €, for the second one it is 9.85 €, and for the sixty first day it falls to 1 €. You have to indicate the number of days you plan to travel in the table below, and your registration fee for the tour will be counted automatically.
